A world of homemade and evocative flavors

Mallín Colorado Ecolodge offers this culinary program where you can enjoy the great kitchen and skills of the hostess, and you will have the possibility to visit our greenhouse with vegetables and aromatic herbs of the area. You will learn recipes of kneaded bread, how to prepare a lamb to the stick in the "quincho", besides different preparations of patagonian salmon to the fine herbs and delicious desserts of Colony times.
From its beginnings Mallín Colorado Ecolodge has been characterized by its excellent food in which the owner of the house overturns all her affection and good palate, preparing homemade and traditional dishes and recipes with products of our own vegetable garden, with healthy meats of the area, cooking with firewood and pots of clay, granting to its dishes that homely touch that has made her famous.


Day 1: Balmaceda - Lake General Carrera
After arriving at the airport, we will begin our journey through the Austral Highway to the south, the unpaved stretch of the Pan American Highway. We will cross rivers, lakes and valleys surrounded by mountains and virgin forest. Our destination is General Carrera Lake, one of the world's largest freshwater reserves. A delicious welcome dinner awaits us. Accommodation at Mallín Colorado Ecolodge.

Day 2: Collection of wild mushrooms in Mallín Colorado and visit to the greenhouse
After breakfast we will go trekking or horseback riding through the Mallín Colorado forest, between lengas, coigues and ñirres, with extraordinary views over Lake General Carrera. Lunch and visit to the garden of vegetables and herbs with the hostess. Today we will learn all about the wild mushrooms growing in the native forest of Mallin Colorado and prepare a mushroom soup for dinner. Before going to the dining room, you are invited to prepare the pisco sour in the kitchen. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 3: Marble cathedrals, kneaded bread and Patagonian salmon
Breakfast and visit to the marble cathedrals. Before arriving at Puerto Tranquilo, we will board a boat to reach the "marble cathedrals", a peninsula of marble caverns of impressive rock formation due to the erosion caused by the millenary tapping of the water. We will enter the caverns in the boat to appreciate the spectacular combination of colors of the water with the white of the rock. We will have lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon there will be classes on how the bread is made in Patagonia and we will learn how to prepare a salmon in the fine herbs in a wood-burning stove. We will dine at the club house, lodging at Mallín Colorado Ecolodge.

Day 4: Baker River and afternoon of desserts, lamb roast to the stick
After breakfast, excursion to the south, where we will know the birth of the river Baker and we will reach the confluence with the river Nef. We will return to lunch and enjoy an exquisite afternoon of cooking, learning to make different desserts of old family recipes of the owner of the Lodge. At 5:00 p.m., the preparation of the lamb roast will begin in the "quincho" of the Lodge, for five hours until ready to eat it. Day 5: Return to Balmaceda Airport
After breakfast, and depending on the time of your flight, we will return by the Carretera Austral towards the north to reach Balmaceda at the time to take your flight. They will travel with rich gourmet sandwiches that we prepare in Mallin Colorado.
